How to be a modern Fashionista

Fashion isn't about looking like you've just stepped off the catwalk or out of a magazine, it's about being individual and creative and interpreting the trends in your own way. It's not about stepping into a designer shop and purchasing a head to toe expensive outfit, It's about experimenting and looking in both the usual and unexpected places for your fashion finds. It's about mixing it up and combining many elements such as high street, vintage, designer, customised pieces, holiday finds, menswear, charity shop bargains, items you've had in your wardrobe for years, items borrowed from friends, the list goes on...

It has taken me a while to learn this however. When I used to work for an insurance company I would spend my entire wages every month without saving a penny. I would usually only buy clothes from Topshop, River Island, Zara and Gap with the odd Primark and New Look item thrown in teamed with a designer accessory that was a Christmas or birthday present. Nowadays, I'm saving a chunk of my salary so I have to be more careful with my spending. I'm always hunting for the best bargain and will look in many places before making that impulse buy.

What does fashion mean to you and where do you like to shop?
